地狱-天堂系列


作品前言


    生与死是永恒的主题,在灾难面前生命是那样的脆弱。自然的灾难,人为的灾难......一个个鲜活的生命瞬间消逝。有人说他们下了地狱,有人说他们上了天堂。基于对生命价值与意义的反思,便有了这组作品《地狱----天堂》的诞生。我要表达地震、海啸、战争、恐怖活动等对生命的毁灭与摧残,以及生命在此时此刻呈现的状态。在灾难面前,普通民众及他们幻想的救世主、英雄,都是一样的无能、无力、无助。我借助Gilles Deleuze(吉尔*德勒滋)的哲学思想,来表达生与死之间的游牧状态,在生与死的游牧状态下而产生的凄美画面,对人的心灵造成巨大的冲击,也包括非灾难事件中生与死的游牧状态。我想,地狱与天堂同存于一个时空之中,观者会通过自己的思想将作品中的人物送进地狱或天堂!

    生与死也同存于一个时空之中,生是死的起始,死是生的复生,这种生与死之间的游牧状态也契合了中国的老子哲学——无即是有,有即是无。

人类制造的玩偶,正是生与死的同一体,我用玩偶来阐述生与死的哲学观点,以及生命的价值和意义。

    这些话语也许象痴人说梦,如果是梦,那是庄生梦蝶:是我梦蝶?还是蝶?梦我?仁者见仁,智者见智。一切尽在梦中,一切恍如梦中。

Foreword


    The matter of life and death is a timeless theme. Life is incredibly fragile in face of disasters and a great many living creatures vanish in the blink of an eye when natural or human disasters strike. Word has it the creatures have been condemned to hell or they have found peace in heaven. A reflection on the value and significance of life gave birth to the works entitled “Hell and Heaven”, which is intended to reveal the devastation of earthquake, tsunami, war, and terrorism upon living creatures and to reconstruct the very moment when the havocs hit. The havocs caught whether people or their fantasized saviours and heroes weak, helpless and powerless. Inspired by Gilles Deleuze’s philosophical insights, I hope to express through these works the nomadic state of life and death, and the tragic but moving pictures in this state. Besides, some non-disastrous events in such nomadic state are included. I believe the hell and the heaven coexist in the same time and space. It is the viewers who will see the whereabouts of the characters in hell or heaven through their own judgments.

    Life and death coexist in the same time and space. Life is the beginning of death and death defines the regeneration of life. The nomadic state of life and death rightly corresponds to the idea of a Chinese philosopher, Laozi: Existence means non-existence, Non-existence means existence.  

    The toys made by human beings are where life and death meet and coexist. Therefore, I apply these toys to demonstrate my philosophical views on life and death, the value and significance of life.

    The above remarks may sound a day-dreamer’s non-sense talking. Suppose it is a dream, it is like the sage Chuangzi’s day-dreaming, bewitched by butterflies. Did I see butterflies in my dream or did the butterflies see me in their dreams? Different viewers may render different judgments. It seems to me everything is in a dream and everything is like a dream.

    These works have touched me deeply. Enjoy them!










患者系列


作品前言


    在《地狱------天堂》系列作品完成之后,我对社会及人的生存状态有了更深入的思考,准备创作系列作品《患者》。

    当今中国在追求经济高速发展的过程中,出现了很多令人深恶痛绝的事情。例如:超市里卖毒馒头(染色馒头),餐厅使用回收的地沟油做菜,生猪饲养者给猪吃瘦肉精......这已不是个别现象。政府对此类事情的态度只是剪草,却不除根!我想,没有合适的环境,细菌就不能繁殖。在费解的同时突然醒悟:社会及人都病了,他们都已成为“患者”。发病原因在法国哲学家让-鲍德里亚Jean Baudrillard 的著作《消费社会》《La société de consommation》中能找到答案。

    基于上述创作背景,便有了系列作品《患者》的诞生。“患者制造患者,我们都是患者”,请不要冒充拯救患者的上帝!因为尼采Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche 早已宣布:上帝死了!!!


Foreword


    After completing my photographs series entitled The Inferno and The Heaven, I have done some deeper thinking on the existence of human beings and society and prepared to work on another series named The Patients.

    As China is desperately striving for a fast growth in its economy, an awful lot of hideous things arise, for instance, the tainted steamed buns sold in supermarkets, the swill-cooked dirty oil used in restaurants, and the lean meat powder fed to pigs, etc. Nowadays these things have become a common sight. While the governments only seek to cut the grass rather than root it out. As far as I see it, bacteria will not be able to survive in the absence of a suitable environment. I was puzzled at first and then came back to myself: both the society and human beings fell ill and they have all become patients. The causes of their disease can be found in La société de consommation by Jean Baudrillard.

    My photographs series The Patients are based on the above backdrops. “Patients created patients, and we are all patients.” Please do not play the God who rescues the patients because Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche announced far earlier, “The God is dead!!!”








疯癫与文明系列


作品前言


    展望全球,纵观历史,为追求个人或集团利益,人类让自身癫狂。例如:战争,反恐,维和......谁是谁非,难以说清,只能用“疯癫”来定义。人类当下努力创造的“文明”,是一种疯癫状态下的“文明”,正如米歇尔-福柯Michel Foucault 在他的著作《疯癫与文明》《Histoire de la folie》中所述。

    基于上述创作背景,便有了系列作品《疯癫与文明》的诞生。


Foreword


    Take a look at the whole world and look back in history, one may find human beings have been driven to dementia incurred by themselves, for example, warfares, anti-terrorism and peacekeeping, etc. It’s difficult to distinguish the rights and wrongs. That’s why I turn to the term “dementia” for definition. Just as Michel Foucault described in his book Histoire de la folie, the so-called “civilization” that human beings strive to create is actually a demented “civilization”.

    My photographs series History of Madness are based on the above backdrops.











文革系列

    1966----1976年一场席卷中国大地的政治运动爆发了,这场政治运动被称为“文化大革命”。无论是从广度还是深度给中国人民带来的灾难超越了任何一场战争,是人类历史上罕见的“十年浩劫”。毛泽东作为中华人民共和国的缔造者通过一场激烈的学生运动,发起了从下至上波及全国的文化大革命。毛泽东号召学生:造反有理,于是成千上万的学生冲向政府和中共党委,造反夺权!

    拍摄此类作品的动机源于童年时代的记忆,游行、批斗、语录、标语、口号、高音喇叭,一直是童年时代挥之不去的图像,幼小的心灵被一种莫名的兴奋、迷茫、恐惧所笼罩。时刻不忘阶级斗争,阶级斗争是纲,纲举目张。毛主席是我们的大救星!是我们心中的红太阳!誓死保卫毛主席!

    我无法评价那个时代的对与错,它只是我记忆中无法忘却的深深印记,如今已经娶妻生子,儿子已是我当时的年龄,某日心中产生一种想法,请儿子做模特,将我童年的记忆演绎一遍,用图片的形式记录下来,以此抒发着内心深处的一种情节!


Foreword


    A political campaign, otherwise known as the Cultural Revolution, swept across China from 1966 to 1976. The ten-year-long catastrophe, unprecedented in human history, brought far greater misery to the Chinese people than any war did in terms of both scale and depth. By resorting to a violent student movement, Mao Tse-tung, the founder of People’s Republic of China, launched the bottom-up campaign that eventually spread across the whole country. Mao Tse-tung sent a call to the students: Rebellion is justified. Subsequently, tens of thousands of students stormed the office buildings of governments and Party committee to seize power.

    My photographs under the theme are inspired by the lingering images of my childhood memories: taking to streets, denouncing a person on false accusations at public meetings, hanging posters, shouting slogan of Mao Tse-tung, tweeters blasting deafening speeches, and etc. Young as I was, my heart was overcome with indescribable feelings of exhilaration, huge loss and terror. During the time when class struggle as the guiding principle for everything reigned over the country, people were enchanted with the slogans: Chairman Mao is our super savior! Chairman is the sun in our hearts! Pledge to defend Chairman with our lives!

    I’m not in a position to make any judgment on that historical period. But it’s an era that has left an unfading mark in my memory. Today I have got married and become a father and my son is just the age when I experienced that campaign. The other day I hit upon an idea: why not ask him to be a model and relive my memory? Therefore, I replayed the history in the form of pictures so as to express what has lingered in the depth of my heart.

作品简介


    这些作品是2011年12月到现在完成的,这些作品创作的背景是,2011年12月之前,为生活忙碌,精神不佳,身体状况很差。2011年12月,在朋友建议下开始坚持每天早起打坐,大约2小时左右,三个月后身体,身体和精神得到了巨大的转变,好的另人难以置信!逐坚持至今,每天不辍,受益良多。这些作品其实只是对我修进过程的一个记录,只想通过湿版摄影《天道轮回》和数码摄影《上善若水》来展现打坐过程中感悟到的状态,与其说是作品,不如说打坐的修心历程更贴切,更像是用图像展现的日记。

谷久文,男,1970年12月25日生于辽宁省葫芦岛市。
